Parish Flotsam

Parish Flotsam: July 2010

Until a few months ago, the CHAD used to report on Glapwell and Ault Hucknall in one of its issues, and on Scarcliffe in another. A new editor has rationalized the local editorial out of its issues and two reporters who used to ring me at the start of each week have been made either redundant or lost half of their workload. I would like to thank Kath Birks and Deborah Guy for their faithful reportage over the years, and I miss our weekly chats as I passed on our church and community activities. Well done Rachel Hibbert and those around her who have been fundraising in recent weeks. A table top sale, music evening and an evening with Glenn Miller have been successful together raising funds for Glapwell Educational Charity, Christian Aid and the Parish Church at Ault Hucknall. Two weddings have been joyful occasions for the farming community: Nicholas Spray and Charlotte Adsetts married on May 29th in Scarcliffe and Robert Hopkinson married Julia Hughes after taking notes at that wedding for his own on 5th June. We wish both couples every blessing for their futures together. Future as I write( because of holidays) is the Archdeacon’s Visitation at the Crooked Spire on June 9th. We pray for our Wardens of both parishes in their new year of office, and give Gerry Beal our appreciation for his service in Ault Hucknall parish in recent years. The new Archdeacon, Christine Wilson is to be presented by the Bishop of Derby.to the Archdeaconry it this, its only Visitation this year. However , the Bolsover and Staveley Deanery was privileged to meet Archdeacon Christine on 25th May at Bolsover to discuss concerns for the future of this Deanery given current staffing levels and the urgent need for the appointment of another Rural Dean. Scarcliffe Flower Festival is future as I write: we pray for its success and give thanks for those who have worked so faithfully for it.
