Restoring an old school and church to community use. St Peter’s Hardstoft was originally a school, the site of which was donated by the Duke of Devonshire in Victorian times. The successor a benefactor for this site is now the National Trust. According to the deeds, if the site ceases to be a church or school, it reverts to the property of the Duke (now the NT.) Neither the NT, nor the local population wish to see the building cease to be a community facility, so a group of trustees has formed to restore the building as a community centre. Much funding has been acquired, but minor legal sticking points have caused delays that allowed conversion costs to rise beyond the grants obtained. The trustees are still working hard to complete the work and make the vision a reality. Contact: Charity Commissioners Number 1068833 Mrs. E.R Price, |
